Abstract

Background: To assess the knowledge and interest of undergraduate medical students regarding application of research methodology.
Methods: In this cross sectional study a close ended questionnaire, containing pertinent questions regarding research aptitude and interest , was administered to 4th years' medical students (n=80), of private and public medical colleges of Islamabad. Chi square test was applied. p value was taken as significant at 0.05.
Results: Majority (67.5%) affirmed that research methodology should be a part of medical curriculum .Female students (85%) were more inclined towards research . Fifty five percent replied not to be a whole time researcher . To use research methodologies in their clinical practice was intended by 43.75%. Forty six percent attended seminars and research workshops.
Conclusion: Majority of medical students especially females endorsed the importance of research at undergraduate level in medical field.
