Authors who want to challenge the revision or rejection decision of their manuscript can file a formal appeal. To do this, they must send a written appeal to the journal's email with “Appeal” and the manuscript reference number in the subject line.
Appeals will only be accepted for manuscripts that have undergone peer review and not for those rejected outright by the editorial team. The appeal must be submitted by the corresponding author, with consent from all authors.
The corresponding author should:
- Submit the appeal within 1 month of receiving the editorial decision.
- Avoid submitting the manuscript to another journal or initiating a transfer process while the appeal is pending.
- Clearly explain in the appeal letter why they disagree with the decision and address the editors' and/or reviewers' comments point-by-point, providing supporting evidence. Appeals will not be considered if the rejection was due to non-compliance with journal policies or disagreements over the manuscript's interest, novelty, or suitability.
- Provide evidence if they believe the Editor or Reviewer made technical errors or if there may be a conflict of interest or bias.
Appeals that do not meet these requirements will be rejected.
The time needed to review an appeal can vary from 3- 6 months depending on the manuscript's complexity.
The corresponding author can withdraw the appeal by sending an email with “Appeal withdrawal” and the manuscript reference number in the subject line to the same email address used for the appeal.
The appeal will be reviewed by the journal’s Editor and the editorial team. If there’s a conflict of interest with the Editor, another board member will handle the appeal.
The appeal will be assessed based on the journal’s policies and scope. The corresponding author will be informed of the appeal's outcome.
If the journal decides to reconsider the manuscript, acceptance is not guaranteed, and the process may involve re-review by previous or new reviewers and/or Editors, as well as significant revisions. Only one appeal per submission will be considered, and the decision on the appeal is final. The journal cannot handle appeals related to legal disputes and may suspend or discontinue an appeal in such cases.
